Nice article Meg, explained like a pro. We must be sure that there are no no-follows on our links from the SB sites. Digg has started to no-follow their links so no link love there. You also only really get the good link juice if you make it to the front page.

While Googling a search term is still by far the dominate way to conduct a web search, more and more folks are finding that they can better sift through all of the clutter out there if they search through Twitter or other networks. Or better yet, they can often post a query and receive numerous personalized responses in just minutes—something that’s just not possible yet with traditional search. Social networking is starting to change how we see web search.

Social Bookmarking is important but relevancy doesn’t start or end with the articles and content we publish, WHERE and what social sites we choose is as important. What I would discourage doing is posting the exact same content on all social sites as it was suggested only because many people do use more than 1 website, unless the content gets changed up to relate more to users who will read it, having same posts on 20 sites just seems like spam and those with multiple accounts will take it as such. I would suggest taking your message and tailoring it to 20 different audiences, think about what they care about not what you care about and what it is that is helpful to them, not to you.

Excellent post!

I am completely agree with both of you Mr. Bravery and Mr. Lonn. Using Social networking, Social bookmarking or Social media sites are great and effective way to build backlinks or traffic to your websites and sometimes we have to be creative. And this is something i do for small local business to promote their products or services. I enjoyed reading your post. Thanks and keep it up!

Social Bookmarking can be tricky. I agree 100% about adding only good stuff and to the right categories.

There are special niche social bookmarking sites. So searching on niche(that you have your business in or want to have a business in) and find those social bookmarking sites. This will increase your efficiency a lot compared to only competing for attention on the big 15 sites.

A great post. If only more people would realise the power that Social Media presents. But one thing is for certain tho, many who do use Social Networking to promote their blog or site, have totally lost the whole idea of Social Networking.

Social Networking is not a free marketing tool, it’s a networking tool. Build up that network, help others, be of service, then when you do promote you blog post, your followers would only be too pleased to read.

Why? because they know you have something to offer, and that you’re not just trying to take from them, but you’re also giving.
